STREET LEGAL LIGHT BARS

What does SAE/DOT compliant mean? Why it is so important?
According to the United States transportation law, all automotive lights need to be DOT compliant to be legal for use on all roads and highways in all 50 states of the US. Headlights or tail lights without compliance with regulations are meant for off-road use only and aren’t legal for use on all US roads and highways. So all DOT compliant lights will stamp the word “DOT” on the lights to show transportation law officers that those lights are street legal lights and complied with the transportation law. DOT stands for Department of Transportation. It is the federal agency that sets standards for automotive lighting. For all LED lights to be DOT compliant, the product must meet strict regulations, standards, specifications and tests. It’s to make sure that the product is not only safe to use in public, but also capable to serve its functions and provides enough illumination.

SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is a private international corporation that sets automotive lighting standards for the manufacturing, testing and design of automotive lighting. In another word, SAE issues technical standards representing 'best practices' in whatever the standard is about (fog lights, turn signals and headlights, etc). To be SAE complaint, all headlights and tail lights must pass certain standards, certain test. procedures and the material tests set by SAE to guide the quality of the product in the lighting manufacturing industry.
