What Is ECE R10 and Why It Matters?

First, I'd like to explain what E-mark certification is. E-mark certification is a safety and compliance approval for vehicles and their components in the European Union/European Economic Area (EEA), ensuring that products can be legally sold and used on European roads. Different types of automotive lamps fall under different E-mark regulations—for example, R149 applies to auxiliary high-beam lamps. For more E-mark standards and details, please refer to our article:

ECE R10 is the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard within the E-mark framework. It ensures that lamps installed on vehicles do not interfere with the ECU, radio, or communication systems, and that the lamp itself remains stable when exposed to external electrical disturbances. The ECE R10 regulation applies to a wide range of products used across multiple vehicle categories, including L, M, N, O, T, R, and S1 classes.

What Are the Benefits of ECE R10-Compliant Vehicle Lights?

• Prevents error codes, flickering, and interference issues.

Lamps that have not passed R10 may trigger dashboard warnings, cause flickering, or introduce noise/interference in onboard radio and communication systems. ECE R10 ensures the lamp operates stably without affecting other vehicle electronics.

• Suitable for the European market, Middle Eastern market, and parts of the South American market.

Most countries in these regions follow or reference the ECE regulatory framework. Therefore, manufacturers intending to sell automotive lighting into these markets should ensure their products comply with ECE R10.

How to Obtain ECE R10 Certification?

To obtain ECE R10 approval, the manufacturer must submit the product to an authorized testing laboratory for both Emission and Immunity tests.

Emission Test

The emission test verifies whether the lamp's electromagnetic emissions remain within the prescribed limits. If the interference level is too high, it may cause issues such as dashboard warning or error messages, lamp flickering or unstable output, and noise or interference in radios, communication devices, or other on-board electronic systems.
If PK < ESA QP and AV < ESA AV, the product passes the emission test—i.e., its emissions are below the limits and it complies with ECE R10.

Immunity Test

Immunity testing verifies a lamp's resistance to electromagnetic disturbances—i.e., whether it continues to operate normally when exposed to external EM interference. To ensure the lamp will not flicker, reset, or be damaged by electrical disturbances whether installed on 12V vehicles or 24V trucks, ECE R10 immunity tests are conducted at 13.5V and 27V respectively.

What Marking Appears on a Product After Passing ECE R10?

Once a lamp has passed ECE R10 certification, it must have the ECE R10 approval marking printed or engraved on the product itself.
This marking is required for the product to be considered street-legal, enables authorities to verify compliance, and helps prevent misrepresentation of non-approved products—protecting consumer safety and market fairness.

Some automotive lights may claim high brightness but can flicker or reset during engine start-up, alternator voltage fluctuations, or RF interference—falling short of the stability requirements defined by ECE R10. Ultimately, ECE R10 is more than a mark. It's the core assurance of stability under actual vehicle conditions.

Instead of simply making a lamp appear compliant, our goal has always been to make driving feel steady, dependable, and reassuring. Driven by this belief, OGA began investing in new product development in 2024, and in 2025 we officially introduced the Forge Series work lights.

Since its launch, the Forge Series has been introduced first in the European market, where it has already received positive feedback from many distributors. Looking ahead, OGA will continue to develop lighting products that comply with E-mark regulations.
